Sunpower Inc.
Sunpower Inc. is the world leader in Free-Piston Stirling Technology, in fact we invented it! Sunpower continues to implement Free-Piston Technology in our commercial line of CryoTel® cryocoolers and our non-commercial Stirling engines. Sunpower’s engineering services include prototype design, development and fabrication of free-piston Stirling engines.

CT
The CT Cooler was brought to commercialization in 2001 after 10 years of cryocooler development at Sunpower. The CT stands for CryoTel®, as the first commercial application was for the telecommunications industry. The CT has been used successfully in applications such as High Temperature Superconductivity (HTS) filters, high altitude balloons, refrigeration, germanium detectors, IR detectors, radio telescopes, laser diode cooling, and research among others. We believe the customer will agree that the CryoTel® CT is the smallest 11W @77K cooler available at an attractive price point with a Mean Time to Failure of over 200,000 hours.

CryoTel® DS30
The CryoTel® DS 30 Stirling cryocooler offers efficient, reliable, compact and high power cooling to the market in the temperature range of 35 to 250 Kelvin. The DS30 was optimized for applications in which SWAP (size, weight and power) and reliability are concerns. The DS30 consumes considerably less power than other cooling alternatives and requires no maintenance, making it ideal for strategic as well as industrial applications. Both the cold head and the pressure wave generator can be mounted in any orientation. Application examples include semiconductor manufacturing, large infrared detectors, RF receivers or antennas, astronomical telescopes, laser cooling, high-temperature superconductivity, cold traps, and others.

CryoTel® Generation II Controller
The Generation II Controller is backward compatible with Generation I, so any setups which are communicating with Sunpower’s Generation I Controller will work with the new controller. Users switching from Generation I to Generation II may need to increase the DC voltage to the controller 1-2 volts to match the maximum power they attained with the Generation I Controller. The mass of the Generation II Controller is 490 grams.

GT
The GT Cooler was brought to commercialization in 2005. The GT has been used successfully in applications such as High Temperature Superconductivity (HTS) filters, high altitude balloons, refrigeration, germanium detectors, IR detectors, radio telescopes, laser diode cooling, and research among others. We believe the customer will agree that the CryoTel® GT is the smallest 16W @77K cooler available at an attractive price point with a Mean Time to Failure of over 200,000 hours. The GT currently utilizes the Generation 2 controller.

MT
The MT cooler has been in production since 2003 and is based on the CT cooler design. It was developed for the customer who did not need the lift of the CT cryocooler and wanted size and weight reduction for their application. The MT has been used successfully in applications such as High Temperature Superconductivity (HTS) filters, high altitude balloons, refrigeration, germanium detectors, IR detectors, radio telescopes, laser diode cooling, and research among others. We believe the customer will agree that the CryoTel® MT is the smallest 5W @77K cooler available at an attractive price point with a Mean Time to Failure of over 200,000 hours.

CryoTel® Active Vibration Cancellation (AVC)
Sunpower, Inc. introduces the Active Vibration Cancellation (AVC) system for the CryoTel® MT, CT, and GT cryocoolers. The active balancer uses a feedback signal from an accelerometer to cancel the first 10 harmonics of the 60 Hz operation of the cryocooler, minimizing vibration at the cold tip as well as exported vibration to its mounting structure.

Space Cryocoolers
As of Dec. 5th, 2018, there have been a total of 82 successful Sunpower cryocooler launches into space. The Sunpower cryocooler in the RHESSI satellite was launched February 5th, 2002 and has been in continuous operation since. We believe this speaks volumes about the robustness of the CryoTel line of cryocoolers.

DS Mini
The DS Mini cryocooler brings gas bearing technology to the mini-cryocooler market. The DS (Dual Split) features dual-opposed pressure wave generator pistons and a split cold head to reduce exported vibration and acoustic noise. The optional passive balancer will further reduce cold head vibration for sensitive applications. Both the cold head and wave generator can be mounted in any orientation. Using gas bearings in the pistons as well as the displacer, the DS maintains the core technologies of the well-established integral CryoTel MT, CT and GT cryocoolers. The DS Mini represents an advantage over flexure bearings due to its higher power density, while still offering a longer lifetime compared to rotary compressors and contact seals.
