Circulators
The most common application of a circulator is as a duplexer, allowing the transmitter and receiver in a radio or radar unit to share a common antenna. Energy is transferred from the RF Source to the antenna during transmit, and from the antenna to the receiver during the receive cycle. In each case the circulator functions to isolate the inactive port from the propagated signal. Most importantly, the transmitter output is not passed to the receiver input, preventing the high transmitter power from damaging the sensitive receiver input circuits.

Gunn Diodes
The Gunn diode is the best known and most readily available device in the family of transferred electron devices (TED). They are employed as DC to microwave converters using the negative resistance characteristics of bulk Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) and only require a standard, low impedance, constant voltage power supply, thereby eliminating complex circuitry. Teledyne Lincoln Microwave’s DC1200 series of GaAs Gunn diodes is designed for operation at fixed frequency (determined by the oscillator cavity) within a specified band under CW or pulsed conditions.

Coaxial Receiver Protector
Where size, weight and power handling are the principle constraints, a TLM air-spaced coaxial limiter range provides an excellent compromise between waveguide and microstrip limiters. These devices are able to withstand higher power levels than microstrip solutions but still retaining a relatively compact package, Teledyne’s designs offer a low insertion loss and incorporate the same wide range of features as our waveguide limiters. Suitable for continuous operation at peak power levels of several kW's and mean power levels of 100's watts with sub- microsecond recovery time - over 10% bandwidth in <100mm length (at S-Band).

Waveguide Receiver Protector
The continuous evolution of radar systems creates an ever more complex RF power environment in which sensitive receivers must operate and survive. Teledyne limiters deliver vital protection for a wide range of receivers, providing protection from L-Band through to Ka-Band (1 - 40GHz) and peak power levels up to 1MW with unparalleled low insertion loss levels.

RF Mixers & Frequency Converters Overview
Up and down conversion is often used because waveform generation in a transmitter is less expensive at lower frequencies and the dynamic range of analogue-to-digital converters in the receiver is higher at lower frequency.

4 Port Devices
Four port devices can be realized by joining two 3 port devices via the appropriate ports. As system performance requirements become more demanding, new design approaches must be adopted. These include Faraday rotation devices and phase shift circulators. The bandwidth and isolation limitations of 3 port devices are overcome through a distributed architecture that enables more ferrite material to be incorporated into the transmission path, thereby achieving an increase in the biasing magnetic field. Phase shift circulators can be designed to handle higher RF power than 3-port devices.

Low Noise Amplifiers
Our range of ITAR Free, Low Noise Amplifiers (LNAs) cover a variety of applications but are primarily suited to airborne, maritime and ground based radar systems. LNAs are primarily intended to minimise added noise whilst providing high gain so design focusses on the parameters associated with the noise response of the amplifier. They are usually the first amplifier in the Radar detection chain and will have the lowest noise figure.

Microstrip Receiver Protector
As radar developments have increasingly moved to passive and active electronically scanned arrays, (PESA / AESA) there has been more focus on the size/ weight/ power/ cost. Teledyne Lincoln Microwve offers a range of microstrip limiters designed to integrate simply into a wide range of land/ sea/ airborne applications. Operating between 1 - 20GHz, these products are available as compact drop-in tiles, connectorized or in surface mount format (SMT).
