Trimmer Potentiometers
CTS trimmers are typically used in applications that do not need frequent adjustment and are often used for "set and forget" initial adjustments in circuits. These are usually located on the circuit board and out of view. CTS trimmers are available in a variety of standard resistance values, tolerances, power ratings, and mounting styles. Depending on product series, adjustment knobs are available with color coding and a screwdriver and/or hex hole for top or bottom side adjustments.

Variable Resistors/Potentiometers
When a design calls for a variable resistance, CTS can supply a solution in the form of a wide variety of rotary and slide-action variable resistors / potentiometers. Our rotary potentiometers are available in various sizes ranging from 9mm square to 24mm in diameter, while slide-action potentiometers are available with travel from 10 to 60 mm. CTS rotary potentiometers can be constructed using conductive plastic, traditional carbon, or wire-wound elements. Our conductive-plastic potentiometers feature a standard 2% linearity and 2 million life cycles with a standard resistance tolerance of 10%. Our conductive-plastic rotary potentiometers handle as much as 0.25 W power in operating temperatures of -40 to +125C. CTS wire-wound rotary potentiometers offer standard linearity of 3% with 2% available upon request, and a resistance tolerance down to 5%. Our wire-wound rotary potentiometers come with a 5 Watt power rating in operating temperatures of -30 to +105C. Standard wire-wound rotary potentiometers are designed for 10,000 life cycles, although models built for 50,000 and 100,000 cycles are available upon request. For those in need of slide-action potentiometers, we offer a range of carbon composition pots with standard features such as 10,000 life cycles, linear and audio resistance tapers, and available with tolerance of 10%.

Chassis Ride Height Applications
Chassis height sensing is a specific application of CTS' rotary sensor technology. Chassis height sensors measure the position of the control arms relative to the frame or body of the vehicle. This information is used in systems such as headlight leveling and real-time-dampening. Key features of the CTS' chassis height sensors is the ability to mount in a variety of angles and projections to accommodate difficult packaging as well as robust sealing required for under chassis applications. With a global team of application engineers, CTS can package one of our generic, tooled for sales sensors or develop a custom product, unique for your application.

Sonar
Piezo elements are used in military and commercial sonar systems for position finding activities. Location of surface and subsurface vessels, depth measurement, surveying, fish location, and communication are several of the more common sonar applications. Piezoelectric ceramic materials have high bandwidth and can quickly respond by applying high force at low power levels. These materials are generally unaffected by environmental factors such as humidity and temperature. CTS materials can be formed to customer specifications and are available in a wide range of geometries with dimensions up to 150 mm or thicknesses less than 100 microns. Our materials sustain high levels of drive voltage and provide excellent coupling factors in sonar applications.

Non-Destructive Testing
Piezoelectric ceramic materials are the active component in nondestructive testing transducers. The material is driven with an ac signal to generate an ultrasonic sound wave that is coupled into an object. The ultrasonic wave is reflected back to the transducer when it encounters a change in density in the material caused by a crack, porosity, or other object with a different density.

Medical Ultrasound
Piezo elements form an essential component in medical diagnostics. Medical Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to look at organs and structures inside the body. Medical professionals use medical ultrasound to view internal organs and during pregnancy to view the fetus. CTS provides both monolithic and composite piezoelectric elements used in medical ultrasound applications.

Hydrophones
Piezo is a critical element in producing a hydrophone for military and commercial underwater listening applications. Hydrophones utilize piezoelectric elements to detect sound pressure waves produced by underwater vessels, animals, and the environment. Hydrophones must have a flat frequency response that is proportional to the magnitude of the sound pressure wave. CTS piezo elements provide this critical function in hydrophones by providing excellent frequency response and high coupling factors necessary in hydrophone applications. CTS materials provide excellent electrical properties for hydrophone applications while allowing the ability to form the piezo element to the desired mechanical structure for the hydrophone.
