Linear Variable Differential Transformer (LVDT) and Rotary Variable Differential Transformer (RVDT) are transformer-type voltage/current transducers that convert a linear/rotary movement of a core/shaft to a multi-wire differential AC electrical signal. Both deliver signals linearly proportional to the position of a shaft (magnetic induction core). An LVDT/RVDT simulator is used to convert digital positional commands to corresponding AC signals.

The DT4 module (the enhanced version) features 24 programmable channels for either input (voltage or contact sensing with programmable, on-module pull-up/pull down current sources), or output (current source, sink, or push-pull) up to 500 mA per channel from an applied, external 3 – 60 VCC source. Module AD4 features 16 channels with up to 16-bit SAR A/D converters for one per 8 channel multiplexed bank / 2 banks. The maximum programmable, expected full-scale range input for the AD4 module is ±10.00, ±5.00, ±2.50 or 1.25 volts where range is -FS to +FS, 0 to FS VDC, or ±25 mA. The A/D converters have programmable sample rates of up to 500 kHz / Aggregate per bank of 8 Channels.

The module provides 8 measurement channels, and can be programmed for interfacing to 2, 3, and 4-wire platinum RTD sensor configurations. The 4-wire mode (default) is the most accurate, providing excellent stability and repeatability. The RTD channels feature individual A/D converters and precision excitation/current drive. Programmable lead-wire compensation is provided for inherently less accurate 2 and 3-wire configurations. All RTD channels are self-aligning because each channel is automatically "aligned" on a rotating basis to eliminate offset and gain errors throughout the operating envelope. Programmability for expected resistance range and wire modes allows for optimization of scaling/resolution, as well as flexibility in reading many RTD types.
