Fluids And Fuel Testing
National Technical Systems (NTS)
NTS performs a wide variety of fluid testing across a large spectrum of pressure, temperature, and rated fluid flow, as well as combined testing programs on a vast array of aerospace fluid components and systems such as process air, bleed and ram air, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, high pressure systems and cryogenic systems.

Fluids Resistance Testing
NTS has extensive abilities in fluid testing. We’ve tested a large variety of products, from pipe fittings to process controllers, flexhoses to pressure vessels, valves to actuators, tank liners to heat exchangers, water to Skydrol. We have tested these products for a variety of measurements, from viscosity to flash point and auto ignition, among others. NTS fluids testing facilities are equipped with computerized data acquisition, reduction and analysis equipment for monitoring the functional characteristics of specimens during testing. NTS has considerable expertise in high flow testing of small devices – such as meters, indicators, totalizers, sensors, transmitters, and check valves.

Fuel Systems & Components Testing
NTS’ Fuel Systems & Component Testing site at Santa Clarita is used for the development and qualification of fuel line parts and subsystems. Any individual device or subsystem that is part of an engine or fuel system – such as fuel pumps, hydro-mechanical fuel controls and shutoff valves – requires qualification testing to the RTCA DO-160 environmental standards for airborne equipment or the Mil-STD 810G environmental standards for a broad range of military equipment. The fuel testing site installed at NTS Santa Clarita is a state-of-the-art facility for simulating the most stringent environmental conditions.

Hazardous Flow Testing
NTS performs pressure, flow, and combined testing programs on flexlines, piping, storage vessels and measurement and control systems utilizing the actual fluids that these systems will use in service. NTS has the ability to test anything from heat exchangers, meters, sensors, valves and filters to high pressure storage tanks (such as those on launch vehicles and satellites) and rocket test stand fuel systems utilizing any of the following: liquid fuels, gasoline, JP1, hypergols, hydrogen, oxygen, steam, diesel, nitrogen, Skydrol, kerosene, cryogenics, ammonia, hydrogen peroxide and other substances.

Cryogenic Fuel Storage and Vaporization Systems
Our cryogenic fluid storage area consists of three 13,000 gallon liquid nitrogen tanks, one 13,000 gallon liquid oxygen tank and one 9,000 gallon liquid hydrogen storage tank. The tanks can be selectively filled to support independent testing activities or feed liquid to high pressure positive displacement pumps and vaporizers. The vaporizers are ASME-coded for use at a liquid hydrogen temperature of -423°F. All pressure piping conforms to ASME B31.3 code design and is installed by certified welders with post-weld X-ray inspection as required. This site has the capability to store LH2, LO2, LN2, liquid CO2 and liquid methane as well as pump and vaporize cryo fluids up to 12 lbs. per second.
