Tension and compression occurs when a tensile stress is applied, then transforms to a compressive stress, or vice versa. The stress will go through the zero point were no stress is applied.

The load cell will operate in tension only, compression only or tension and compression modes. This style of load cell can lead to more flexibility in future testing.
