The visibility is an important factor for road markings, traffic signs, road studs as well as high-visibility material such as warning clothes and Heavy good vehicles (HGV's) contour safety marking.
The measurement of retroreflectivity is essentially a measurement of the reflectance of material under specified geometrical and spectral conditions. Instruments are available for measuring the retroreflectivity of various reflection materials.
