Autonomous RTUs are power network independent devices, opening up new horizons for telemetry in off-grid areas. An autonomous RTU features in measuring capabilities and contains a wireless MODEM for data and alarm transmission. It can also provide all necessary circuits for powering measuring transducers and sensors. The device is commonly powered by an internal battery and is housed in a IP66 to IP68 enclosure for outdoor use. The battery lifetime requirements extend from few months to 15 years. Another common requirement is continuous, maintenance free operation in harsh environmental conditions and extended temperature ranges.

Available in normally open (DPST & SPST) configurations. Connections are made via a front panel micro-D 96-pin male connector. For applications requiring improved bandwidth and crosstalk performance please look at our 40-120 and 40-125 range of shielded reed relay cards. General purpose reed relays are suitable for the construction of small switching networks, slaving up to larger switches or operating external devices (e.g. lamps, solenoids etc.). To simplify inter-relay wiring, interconnection points are built onto the circuit board easing the construction of complicated wiring.

Analog Devices Inc.
The AD8452 combines a precision analog front-end controller and switch mode power supply (SMPS), pulse-width modulator (PWM) driver into a single silicon platform for high volume battery testing and formation manufacturing. A precision instrumentation amplifier (in-amp) measures the battery charge/discharge current to better than ±0.1% accuracy, while an equally accurate difference amplifier measures the battery voltage. Internal laser trimmed resistor networks establish the in-amp and difference amplifier gains (66 V/V and 0.4 V/V, respectively), and stabilize the AD8452 performance across the rated operating temperature range.

BioAge s.r.l.
The Micro Smart System is one of the many autonomous systems with very low consumption designed by BioAge. The system is characterized by autonomous operation with very low energy consumption thanks to its operation in "Energy Harvesting" which allows to exploit the power supply from a micro solar panel with which each sensor is equipped. Furthermore, these systems are equipped with radio frequency communication able to remotely transmit the information acquired by the sensors on board, it is therefore possible to create a network of sensors, operating autonomously and with a very high autonomy thanks to solar energy.

802.11p -
Qosmotec Software Solutions GmbH
When many cars are equipped with 802.11p communication technology, high traffic density will also cause significant load on the radio channel. From normal wireless communication systems it is a known problem, that many users can cause a complete breakdown of the network. Car-to-X communication technology tries to protect itself against those kind of breakdown by a carrier sensing mechanism: Each communication device has to check first, if the radio channel is busy. In that case, it waits for a random delay to avoid packet collision on the radio channel, which causes a loss of both collided packets.
