Dow-Key Mircowave Corporation
An electromechanical switch made primarily for routing microwave signals/RF energy from one point to another within a transmission line. Coaxial switches can be used in either an industrial environment or in the lab. These electromechanical devices are also used for RF testing equipment and in large RF communication systems and networks. Coaxial switches vary by port configuration, switch type, maximum frequency, isolation, insertion loss, voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) and package type. Coaxial switches are able to route RF signals over a broad bandwidth from DC to 40 GHz, and are now offered with the Low PIM option which will improve Passive Intermodulation levels from -110dBc (standard switch) to -160dBc.

Dow-Key Microwave
Dow-Key Coaxial RF switches are employed in RF testing equipment and large RF communication systems and networks to efficiently route microwave signals or RF energy within a transmission line. Our Coaxial RF switches route RF signals over a broad bandwidth from DC to 40 GHz, and are now offered with a Low PIM option to improve passive intermodulation levels from -110dBc (standard switch) to -160dBc.

What is the difference between Failsafe and Latching?Failsafe switches are Normally Open; when a position is energized, the Open contacts will Close, until voltage is removed. It will then revert back to the Normally Open position. These are commonly used in applications where a default known state is required.Latching switches will remain in the last energized position until the next position is energized. It is commonly used in applications where power consumption is critical or limited.

Our rigorous quality assurance processes allow transfer switches to be used in critical programs such as Inmarsat-4 satellite system which supports Broadband and Global Area Network for delivering Internet and intranet content solutions (e.g. video, fax, email and LAN access). On other space missions like the ACE (Advanced Composition Explorer – an explorer mission) our lightweight (less than 55 grams) and highly reliable qualified transfer switches were a perfect fit.

Dow-Key Mircowave Corporation
Dow-Key’s innovative and proven high reliability, superior RF performance, and low current/magnetic latch SPDT switches have played a part in hundreds of successful space missions since the 1970’s. Some of these missions include: GPS III (Global Positioning System), Atlas (launch vehicle), Pegasus (rocket), Milstar (satellite communication system), and Optus (leading operator of satellites in the Asia Pacific region).

Dow-Key Mircowave Corporation
Space-qualified multi-position switches are sometimes used during launch, which means that they need to be operational under very harsh conditions, such as continuous RF power during actuation (‘hot switching’), as well as high levels of shocks and vibrations. Dow-Key has proven designs on numerous programs such as ORION, VENICE, and AMOS.

NI
Connects measurement and signal generation devices. Model options include industry-standard coaxial connector types including BNC, SMA, SMB, and MCX. Long cables can act as antennae picking up extra noise that can affect measurements, so ensure you select only the length required for your test system. Also look at the impedance of your test system and consider buying a cable with the same impedance. Matched impedance can maximize the power transfer or minimize signal reflection from the load of your system.
