  • Time-Resolved Electrochemical Quartz Crystal Microbalance

400C Series - CH Instruments, Inc.

The quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) is a variant of acoustic wave microsensors that are capable of ultrasensitive mass measurements. Under favorable conditions, a typical QCM can measure a mass change of 0.1-1 ng/cm2. QCM oscillates in a mechanically resonant shear mode under the influence of a high frequency AC electric field which is applied across the thickness of the crystal. Figure 1b below shows an edge view of a QCM crystal undergoing oscillatory shear distortion. The central portions of the top and bottom of the crystal are coated with a typically disk-shaped thin metal film (e.g., gold).

  • Electrostatic Capacitance-Type Gap Detectors

    VE series - Ono Sokki

VE series are non-contact type of vibration/small displacement detector with high accuracy which can measure the distance between conductor such as metal and sensor’s surface in micron/submicron resolution. It demonstrates its best performance when used for the measurement and control of the axial and surface vibration of rotational shafts such as main shaft of turbines, electric motors, compressors, and of the thickness and width of moving objects. In addition to the measurement of the amount of displacement, a gap detector can also be used for a wide range of other measurement and control applications such as the measurement of the amount of slack or warping. The non-contact measurement process enables to apply no load to rotational or vibration body, and does not affect the material under measurement.

  • Shielding Effectiveness Test

    Keystone Compliance

Shielding effectiveness testing determines the ability of material to reduce the electromagnetic field in a space by blocking the field with barriers made of conductive and/or magnetic materials. Shielding effectiveness testing can be applied to a broad range of radio frequencies. Electromagnetic Shielding is typically applied to both enclosures and cables. The shielding can reduce the coupling or radio waves, electromagnetic fields and electrostatic fields. The amount of reduction can vary based on the material used, its thickness, the size of the shielded volume and the frequency of the fields of interest. Also impacting the effectiveness of the shielding is the size, shape and orientation or apertures in a shield to an incident electromagnetic field. Electromagnetic shielding that blocks radio frequency electromagnetic radiation is also known as RF Shielding.

  • Automated Live Fish Measuring System

    ViTec Co. Ltd

The system for measuring and identifying aquatic organisms is designed to measure the linear dimensions and volume of live fish on a conveyor. The conveyor speed can reach 2.5 m / s, that is, up to 5 fish can pass through the installation in one second. The measurement of the thickness and volume of fish is carried out using a specialized camera Sick Ranger D40, which works on the principle of laser triangulation. The camera operation is synchronized with the conveyor movement using the Sick DGS-60 encoder. The industrial color camera Basler Scout scA1300-32gc is used for measuring the linear dimensions of fish (length and width), as well as highlighting characteristic features of different types (color of scales and fins) and possible defects.

  • Dielectric Breakdown Voltage and Dielectric Strength

ASTM D149 - National Technical Systems

This test method covers procedures for the determination of dielectric strength of solid insulating materials at commercial power frequencies, under specified conditions. Unless otherwise specified, the tests shall be made at 60 Hz. However, this test method is suitable for use at any frequency from 25 to 800 Hz. At frequencies above 800 Hz, dielectric heating is a potential problem. This test method is intended to be used in conjunction with any ASTM standard or other document that refers to this test method. References to this document need to specify the particular options to be used. It is suitable for use at various temperatures, and in any suitable gaseous or liquid surrounding medium. This test method is not intended for measuring the dielectric strength of materials that are fluid under the conditions of test. This test method is not intended for use in determining intrinsic dielectric strength, direct-voltage dielectric strength, or thermal failure under electrical stress (see Test Method ASTM D3151). This test method is most commonly used to determine the dielectric breakdown voltage through the thickness of a test specimen (puncture). It is also suitable for use to determine dielectric breakdown voltage along the interface between a solid specimen and a gaseous or liquid surrounding medium (flashover). This test method is similar to IEC Publication 243-1. All procedures in this method are included in IEC 243-1. Differences between this method and IEC 243-1 are largely editorial. Note: The above information is taken directly from the test method Scope published in ASTM D149.
