When it’s not practical to use conventional robust circuit breaker analyzers, a handheld circuit breaker analyzer and timer may come handy. DV Power has developed a unique CAT Handheld series. It is specially designed for testing of circuit breakers with one break per phase. Their compact and ergonomic design can provide a wide range of features and reliable operations in low, medium and high-voltage substations or in industrial environments.CAT Handheld series consists of two models, CAT-P and CAT-H. Both of them have a large (5,7 in) colored touch screen display. Because of that, test results are visible in dark places as well as in bright sunlight.Powerful internal Li-Ion battery of the instruments can last up to 8 hours of testing without recharging.CAT Handheld series records:main contacts operating times,contact synchronization,sequence time,a resistance of pre-insertion resistors,open and close coil currents,main contacts bounce time,auxiliary contact time,DC Voltage.Multiple operations, such as Open-Close and Open-Close-Open, can be initiated by using a predefined delay time or by triggering signal from current clamps connected to circuit breaker coil.CAT-H is capable of performing a coil control, while this feature is optional at CAT-P instrument. TRT Advanced series is the newest DV Power solution for transformer turns ratio measurement. Besides its main application, each turns ratio tester from this series also measures transformer excitation current and phase shift. Furthermore, all models perform automatic vector group detection and magnetic balance on three-phase transformers and three-phase autotransformers. They have a built-in true three-phase power source. For that reason, they can test transformers with special configurations, such as phase-shifting, rectifier, arc-furnace, traction transformers, etc.The instruments can output test voltages from 1 V AC to 500 V AC, depending on the model. With the highest test voltage 500 V AC, TRT500 provides the most accurate turns ratio testing of power transformers used in power generation and transmission. The output test voltage of TRT500 can be boosted to 5 kV AC using the external CVT20 extension transformer. This application is specially designed for testing turns ratio of capacitive voltage transformers. The other three models, TRT400, TRT250, and TRT100 can output up to 400 V, 250 V, and 170 V respectively. The low test voltage of 1 V AC enables turns ratio verification of current transformers.TRT500 is equipped with a large 10.1” graphical touch screen display. Other models, (TRT400, TRT250, TRT100) have 7” graphical touch screen display. Besides making the interface much more user-friendly compared to older turns ratio testers, it also brings certain options that were previously available only with DV-Win software. The most important are test templates and automatic test mode. Users can simply create test templates, store them in the instrument’s memory, and load when in the field with just a few clicks.This turns ratio test set, as well as all other DV Power turns ratio testers, has a built-in tap changer control unit. It enables remote control of an on-load tap changer (OLTC) directly from the instrument. In order to make the most out of this feature, the instrument can be programmed to do everything automatically – running turns ratio tests, changing OLTC tap positions, and saving results. This option, especially in combination with test templates, significantly facilitates and shortens the turns ratio testing time. Automatic test mode minimizes human errors, which makes the measurement more reliable.

After a DC current test, such as winding resistance measurement, the magnetic core of a power or instrument transformer may be magnetized (remnant magnetism). It can cause various problems such as wrong diagnostics, inaccurate measurements on a transformer, inrush current at the start-up of a power transformer, or incorrect operation of protective relays due to magnetized CT cores. The best way to eliminate this source of potential problems is to use demagnetizer on the power or instrument transformer.The DEM60C is a fully automatic test instrument which performs three-phase transformer demagnetization. Transformer magnetic core demagnetization requires the application of AC current with magnitude decreasing to zero. DEM60C provides this AC current by internally changing the polarity of a controlled DC current. During the demagnetization process, the instrument supplies the current at decreasing magnitude for each step, following a proprietary algorithm. It can demagnetize single-phase and three-phase power transformers.The instrument can be connected to all three phases of a power transformer to be demagnetized, on either the primary or the secondary side. If a user selects specific vector diagrams for different types of transformers, DEM60C will run a specific demagnetization procedure for each transformer type (i.e., single phase, delta, wye/star, zig-zag.) without switching the test leads.DEM60C enables safe and efficient power transformer demagnetization. The instrument automatically regulates the injection of current and discharging energy from the inductance. During and after the operation, an intrinsically safe discharge circuit with an indicator rapidly dissipates the stored magnetic energy. The discharging circuit is independent of the power supply, which improves its reliability in case of loss of power.Test currents of up to 60 A DC enable efficient demagnetization of even the largest power transformers. Using a DV Win software, it is possible to control DEM60C externally.

Circuit breakers are being tested during manufacturing, commissioning or maintenance stages. The most basic test requires timing measurement using circuit breaker timer. Their primary role is timing and motion measurement of medium and high voltage circuit breakers. Unlike CAT03, CAT31 has the possibility of circuit breaker operation initiation, coil current measurement, and auxiliary contact timing measurement. CAT61 differs in comparison to CAT31 by its ability to measure up to two breaks per phase.CAT34 and CAT64 are more advanced compared to CAT31 and CAT61, respectively, since they have additional analog channels. Also, they have the possibility of a travel curve recording.A user can download the test results to a USB memory stick or save it to internal memory. The CAT Standard series internal memory can store up to 500 test results (numerical and graphical data). Optional thermal printer prints test results in tabular and graphical form on 80 mm (3.15 inch) paper rolls. CAT Standard series instruments are compatible with DV-Win software. It provides full control of all CAT functions from a PC, as well as acquisition and analysis of test results.
