The Model 421 is a benchtop, laboratory gaussmeter, capable of measuring magnetic fields from 0.001 Gauss to 300 kGauss (measurement range is dependent on probe used). This unit is well-suited to magnet testing, quality assurance, and other applications requiring highly repeatable magnetic measurements. Measurements of AC and DC magnetic fields are shown in Gauss or Tesla on the two-line vacuum fluorescent display. The PI-41702 is a four channel bipolar DC Bias supply that can provide an output current up to 100 mA per channel. The output voltage ranges from –8 V to +8 V, and this card has special filter circuitry to reduce the output noise for those applications that require a low noise bias output. Additionally there is a ‘D’ type connector that allows the introduction of laboratory type supplies to reduce the noise further. To change from using the internal power supplies to external power supplies requires repositioning jumpers. The PI-41702 also has voltage and current sense for remote measurement of the voltage and current levels.

The circuitry consists of a low noise logarithmic amplifier that drives a digital A/D converting meter circuit. The lowest power levels that can be read are about –73 dBm (approximately 40 microvolts or .00000003 milliwatts). The maximum power input should not exceed 10 milliwatts (+10 dBm or .010 watts) when inputed without attenuation. An internal attenuator is provided and described in the next section.
