    Optical fiber consists of a core and a cladding layer, selected for total internal reflection due to the difference in the refractive index between the two. Several layers of protective sheathing, depending on the application, are added to form the cable. Rigid fiber assemblies sometimes put light-absorbing ("dark") glass between the fibers, to prevent light that leaks out of one fiber from entering another. This reduces cross-talk between the fibers, or reduces flare in fiber bundle imaging applications Optical fibers are very strong, but the strength is drastically reduced by unavoidable microscopic surface flaws inherent in the manufacturing process. The initial fiber strength, as well as its change with time, must be considered relative to the stress imposed on the fiber during handling, cabling, and installation for a given set of environmental conditions. There are three basic scenarios that can lead to strength degradation and failure by inducing flaw growth: dynamic fatigue, static fatigues, and zero-stress aging.

The inputs support both point sensors and fiber-optic line sensors,which cover a larger area.Using optical sensors rather than relying strictly on current measurement allows a much faster detection time than overcurrent relays or a circuit breaker alone can typically provide, as the light from the arc is unique for the fault, whereas current pulses above the nominal level are part of normal operation for many systems.On the occurrence of an arc fault, the protection relay detects the fault and pulses the trip contact in less than one millisecond, which trips the circuit breaker(s) supplying the fault. The total arcing time is effectively reduced to the mechanical opening time of the circuit breaker, typically between 30 and 75 milliseconds. This reduces the energy of the arc fault significantly, increasing worker safety, reducing fault damage, and improving uptime. Switchgear can often be simply cleaned, inspected, and put back in service after an arc fault instead of having to be replaced.

The sensor’s housing also serves as a handle. The battery-powered X1-1 optometer supports a usable dynamic range from less than 1 mW/cm² to 40,000 mW/cm² thanks to its high-end signal amplifier. It can be used to perform precise measurements of up to 5 standard LED wavelengths for which the detector was calibrated for active irradiance. In addition to the CW measurement function, the device also has a dose measurement function. The radiometer can be used with other detectors from the RCH series. e.g. for gas discharge lamps. Remote control of the device is possible via its user software and a software development kit is offered for integration of the device in the user’s own software.

These made researchers focus on renewable energy sources due to the environmental pollution caused by the existing conventional energy sources. Solar energy is one of the renewable energy that has been under deep research. Unfortunately, the main problem with this solar energy is lack of efficiency. Different positions of the sun throughout the day causing the static photovoltaic modules position inefficient. This paper discusses design of two-axis solar tracking system that considers multiple input parameters such as solar radiation and photovoltaic module output power for more efficient solar tracking algorithm. Some of solar tracking system conducted by other researchers uses various types of sensors including light dependent resistor (LDR) which is not efficient and can be easily affected by external environmental factors. Instead, this paper proposes the usage of pyranometer for measuring solar radiation as one of the input parameters. The solar tracking system controlled by PIC microcontroller that collects multiple input parameters and uses developed algorithm to control stepper motor movement for optimal photovoltaic module positioning.
