    The ADVICE Fiber Optic Xcvr (FOX-1) is a photoelectric fiber optic transceiver. It is designed to transmit and receive 660nm (visible) light using standard plastic fiberoptic cable. The FOX transmits light on one fiber, which reflects off a target, and then returns on a second plastic fiberoptic cable. The FOX has a sensitive receiver that converts strong/weak reflected light amplitude into high/low voltage pulses on its electrical interface. Unlike similar sensors, the FOX does not require any calibration for correct operation. The FOX is designed to work in low-light and low-contrast applications where optical pulse rates are between 1Hz and 100kHz.

EDFAs typically operate in saturation and the average signal power determines the average gain. The dynamics of EDFA are unaffected by the sequence and dynamics of a digital signal or channel interaction in DWDM systems. As a result, multiple channels can be bundled within the total erbium spectral amplification bandwidth. However, the total average output power in both cases is determined by the saturation power of the specific EDFA.
