You can also join several ports under one name and let applications switch among the free ones. COM Port Splitter is very good at splitting any hardware COM port into multiple virtual COM ports, so that each of them behaves exactly like the original port and has the same name. All virtual ports receive any data that is received by the original port at the same time. For example, COM Port Splitter can let a single serial device interact with multiple applications at the same time. Another job COM Port Splitter can do for you is join some real COM ports into one virtual port, which is rather useful when you need some application to handle multiple serial devices simultaneously. All data received by one of the joined COM ports is instantly forwarded to the joining virtual port and to the application, and vice versa. It is also possible to redirect all serial traffic from a hardware COM port to another COM port (hardware or virtual) with COM Port Splitter, meaning that any data sent to the redirected port is immediately received on the port you redirected it to. You may need this in case you are using some software with very strict serial-port settings and instead of figuring out how to modify those settings you can just redirect the data traffic to it. Besides, COM Port Splitter is essential for creating complex bundles of real and virtual serial ports and interconnecting them as you wish, therefore enabling data exchange between those ports.

The MR3 Magnetoresistive Milligauss Meter measures and displays the three vectorcomponents (X, Y, Z) as well as the magnitude (M) of the static magnetic field. Update is two times per second. The three sensors are in a 25 mm (1") cube at the end of a flexible 100 cm (40") cable. It can be powered by 4 AA batteries (included) or a Worldwide AC adaptor (included). It can collect and store data (X, Y, Z and M) for later download or stream data live via USB connector. Both the instantaneous values of X, Y, Z and M, and their peak values, are displayed on the meter screen. "Peak" values are the highest values seen since the peak reset button was pressed. Maximum error of sensitivity is +/- 0.5 % of the reading, and the maximum error of the offset is +/- 0.50 milligauss. Range is +/- 1999.99 milligauss with resolution 0.01 milligauss (or 1 nT) over the full range, displayed simultaneously for X, Y, Z and M.

JEOL JSM-6610 LV LaboratoryScanning electron microscopy (SEM) uses electrons for imaging to obtain higher magnifications and greater depth of field than light microscopes. The instruments at MEE are capable of variable-pressure, or low vacuum, SEM (VPSEM), as well as traditional high-vacuum conditions for sample observation. VPSEM is a specialized method using a variable-pressure sample chamber that allows direct evaluation of samples that are not readily examined with a traditional high-vacuum SEM. Nonconductive or vacuum sensitive samples that would typically require additional sample preparation can be directly analyzed in VPSEM without the need for additional sample preparation, such as carbon or metallic conductive coatings. This reduces both sample preparation time and distractions in microanalysis. Our laboratory also has a field emission SEM (FESEM) for critical high-magnification work and low-voltage (LVSEM) applications. Each instrument has a spacious sample chamber that can accommodate large and irregularly-shaped specimens and accessories for feature dimensional analysis and chemical microanalysis.
